The Republican billionaire businessman overcame all odds to beat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton to reach the over 270 required Electoral College votes, thus winning the tightly contested race.

And the University of London-educated historian on Wednesday urged African leaders to be prepared for ‘tough’ times ahead due to Trump’s conservative approach to autocratic leadership.

“I have been following keenly and I think his victory is a blessing to African countries. He has never hidden his thoughts about poor governance in Africa and certainly he will be tough on dictatorial leaders,” said Bogonko.

Bogonko added: “however, his victory will also have negative repercussions, especially on immigrants. He has promised before to kick out illegal immigrants and Muslim communities from the US. He has also talked about building a wall along Mexico border.”

He also said that the legacy of outgoing President Barack Obama will be in ‘tatters’ following Trump’s public criticism of a few policies passed during Obama’s era.
