Egerton University Vice-Chancellor Professor James Tuitoek has, in a Circular addressed to members of staff of the university, warned them against con people.
He says the people are masquerading as officials from the Ethics and Anti corruption Commission (EACC) and they are out to extort money from them. The university boss said that his office had received complaints and reports that some people were soliciting money from some members of staff by threatening to expose their corrupt dealings while claiming that they are officers from the EACC.
According to the Vice Chancellor, several senior staff members had been approached by the tricksters who claimed that they had been assigned by senior officers in Nairobi following reports of corruption among the employees.
“I am asking members of staff to be on the lookout and report any of such cases to my office or the university’s anti-corruption office for further investigations,” said the Prof Tuitoek.
Recently three suspects, Lamech Otieno, Ibraim Ololo and Leah Chico were arraigned in a Nairobi court after forging a death certificate of one of the university’s senior member Sammy Njema which they intended to use to claim a sum of Sh4 million from Liaison Insurance Company.
