This comes few months after students raised concerns over poor network around the institution that made internet accessibility cumbersome.

Deputy vice-chancellor Maurice Amutabi on Friday said the move will see hundreds of students access wireless internet easily, even outside the university premises.

“Improving internet networks in the institution is inevitable.  Sooner, we will have students enjoying network services easily and without major delays that have been witnessed before,” Amutabi, who is in charge of academics, said.

“This was obviously prompted by the increasing number of students in the institution making the old booster unable to serve everyone within the university,” he added.

The don said the Sh500,000 project will improve education standards by allowing students to further their research by visiting websites for referencing purposes.

“We may not be having all necessary books within the library. This is why improving internet accessibility is fundamental. We want to see students whether undergraduates of postgraduates making use of the internet facilities,” he said.

The move has been received well by students who lauded management for significant progress in terms of students’ welfare.

“I am very happy that the management has realised slow wireless networks prompted by increasing population," said student leader Rodgers Nyanumba.

"We will be accessing internet services easily and this will help us do assignments easily using our laptops even outside campus.”
