Various university students in Kisii are in a deep sorrow over the shortage of hostels in the area and they are now calling for the government to take action of the same.
According to some of those interviewed by this writer most of the town campuses in Kisii don’t have accommodation plans, therefore, that force them to ensure they look for private hostels which have now become too expensive for them to afford.
Edwin Onyoni a first-year student at JKUAT Kisii campus says that he was shocked to be told that a single room hostel goes for Sh6000 per month of which he is sure he won’t afford.
“We are suffering as currently, we live 4 of us in one single room as that is what we can afford hence becoming uncomfortable,” he added.
Another first year from Kisii University Alice Nyaboke said that she didn’t get a hostel in the campus despite that she was selected to join the campus as government sponsored.
“I have not yet found a hostel in the area but I hope we will be able to find a way forward as there are few housing facilities in the town,” she added.
