The freshers’ night which was the first of its kind to be held outside the university since it was chartered, seemed to have not been welcomed by most of the freshmen who lacked confidence spending the night outside their campus.

Most of them said were scared of going to the event as they said it had been arranged far from the university and it was full of locals more than students.

“I did not even know where the hotel is because I am new in Kisii town. The university should have held it in the campus grounds,” said Thomas Ndun’gu, a first-year student.

Events such as the freshers’ night are normally organised and sponsored by the office of the Dean of Students in conjunction with student leaders.

“I feared going there because I have heard stories of university students getting stabbed or killed when they go to night outs in hotels and pubs in towns,” said Ivy Chelagat.

The freshmen now want a fresh freshers’ night to be organised by the university.
