New students set to join Kisii University in September intake have been instructed to book in advance for accommodation by August 24. In a circular on Thursday by the university’s Chief Halls Officer, Mr Douglas Mong’are, the students are required to book through the office from August 15 amid the shortage of hostels.“All students who receive the notification of successful room booking will be expected to pay Sh3,500 per semester to the university fees account and present a bank slip at the Halls department,” read the circular. Currently, there are only 500-bed spaces available in the university hostels which may not accommodate all the freshmen. Over 3,000 new students, from both government-sponsored and self-sponsored are expected to report officially on September 1, 2016. The department has also warned against MPesa payments made to any of their officers or unknown people on accommodation. However, the Halls Department has advised the new students to make prior arrangements for private accommodation in other private hostels around the university. The September intake will be the fourth time the university will have admitted new government sponsored students since it was chartered in 2013.
