Speaking to the media at his office on Wednesday, the university’s medical training director, Dr Samson Obure, said the unit has been properly and technologically equipped.

“We have opened a mortuary unit that will not only offer practical lessons to students but also be used by residents to preserve bodies of their kin,” said Obure.

The training director said the move to establish a mortuary is meant to equip medical students with appropriate skills and help residents preserve their dead.

He observed Molo and Njoro residents will benefit from the unit that has the capability of accommodating more than 100 bodies.

Obure said the university will offer mortuary services at lower costs to enable residents access the services. He indicated that Molo and Njoro residents depend on Nakuru for mortuary services, stating that the one at the Molo district hospital has no coolers.
