During this ongoing lecturer’s strike, most students are still around their campuses for several untold reasons.

While some are busy earning a living through their various investments and online jobs, others are betting with various gaming and betting companies. Still, others are idling around campus, but don't blame them as cheap brews are at hand to keep them going.

Junior Makonge, a third year student taking a Bachelor's degree in Statistics and Programming at Kenyatta University, is not idling at all. Neither has he decided to go to the village because to him, this is an opportunity to bring out the entrepreneur in him. In short, he is making money.

And how is a student making Sh10,000 during a biting strike?

Makonge is currently earning more than Sh1000 in a day by researching and writing on various topics for various online platforms that includes but not limited to hivisasa.com.

Makonge has used his earnings to open up a grocery at Ruiru, behind Kenyatta University Ruiru Campus, where he has employed another person to run it.

He is, however, without challenges.

"Okay, I do face challenges. Many of them indeed. Some customers disappear after I complete a task for them. I cannot work from my room because am yet to install the internet, so I just have to go to the campus to use the free wi-fi," he said on Saturday.

He, however, notes that he is always motivated by the challenges he faces daily because, as he says, they always teach him valuable lessons.
