More than 15 various university students were on Thursday evening arrested at Mwembe area Kisii county as they were found in Chang'aa drinking dens.
According to the police, the 15 students identified themselves after the police arrested over 29 people in a late evening crackdown.
Confirming the incident Local Deputy OCPD Augustine Obonyo said that the students were drawn from various universities.
He blamed the ongoing lecturers strike as the main reason as to why most students were drinking.
"It is shocking that majority of those who were arrested are students and this is due to the ongoing lecturers strike," said Mr Obonyo.
The police boss, however, said that the fact that there was an ongoing strike was not a reason for drinking.
He said that anyone involved in the selling of outlawed liquor will be in for it.
