Thika Town MP Alice Nga’ng’a has called on university students in the area to apply for bursary funds from the area education kitty.

Speaking to the media over the weekend, the lawmaker said that the Thika Education Trust Fund launched two months ago has enough funds to cater for needy students.

The MP asked needy students seeking to further their studies to feel free and apply for the money.

“I want to ask students who wish to further their studies to apply for bursaries,” she said.

The MP said that she is keen to ensure needy students in the constituency have access to better education.

She said that education remains the key to a successful life, fight against poverty and unemployment.

Nga’ng’a appealed to the county and the national government to put in place more measures meant to improve education standards.

She further called on the government to address issues being raised by various teachers unions to avert any go slows and strikes.

At the same time, then MP urged the county government to boost security in Thika town noting that she has received complaints from members of the public on deteriorating security.

“The county should initiate measures meant to improve security in Thika and its environs,” she added.

Last week, a section Tuktuk operators complained of rising insecurity and asked area leaders to intervene. The operators claimed that some of the passengers they can turn out to be criminals.
