Maseno University students have complained of how landlords are exploiting pupils in rental houses outside the varsity premises.
There are a lot of students from the institution and the administration cannot fully accommodate them all as there are a few hostels.
The demand for housing has forced entrepreneurs to set up many rental houses around the campus.
Comrades from the institution have complained that paying rent in Maseno is expensive than paying school fees as some of the houses charge up to Sh3500 in a single semester.
"Paying rent in Maseno University is no joke as rental houses are very expensive. The landlords take advantage of our situation as the institution cannot accommodate us all hence hiking rental prices to abnormal prices.
"We appeal to the administration and stakeholders to intervene into the matter as some students come from humble backgrounds and cannot manage to pay rent hence affecting their studies," Mercy Melly a student from the Institution said
