The Lands Ministry has contracted more than 200 University students to clean up and re-organise the Thika Lands registry.

The registry was closed on Monday to pave way for the exercise.

Speaking to the press at the offices onn Wednesday, the Officer-In-charge of the registry Alfred Obina said that they are using the services of university students.

He said the registry will be opened later next week after the process which is meant to trace and organise lands files.

On Monday and Tuesday, members of the public seeking services at the offices were turned away. They however accused the Lands Ministry of failing to give them a notice on time.

“I have travelled all the way from Gatundu to come and sort out some issues only to be turned away,” said Marion Wanjiku.

Wanjiku though lauded the government for the initiative saying it will curb corruption and ensure transparency in land dealings.

Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu says that the re-organisation and cleaning of lands registries will be carried out across the country.
