A section of Maseno University students has raised concern over delayed HELB loans.
The students argued that most of them depend on the money for their upkeep and payment of school fees, yet a good number of them are yet to receive the money.
Some of the students expressed fear of missing this semester's exams, adding that they depend on the money to clear their fee balances.
Responding to the concerns, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) on Friday last week through its official Twitter handle said the disbursements will be made depending on university opening dates.
"ATTENTION: Loan disbursement is based on university opening dates as communicated by the Institution to us," read the tweet.
The Board encouraged students to exercise patience and assured them that they would receive the money once they begin their second semester.
It is reported that the money had been disbursed to students despite some of the universities suspending their semesters due to the lectures strike.
The Board cannot disburse the money twice in a single semester and thus has to wait until universities that suspended their semesters complete their first semester then disburse the loan to students when the second semester begins.
For instance, Maseno University students will receive their loan disbursements from February 25, as that is when their second semester begins.
