Egerton University is set to build a multimillion bookshop in Nakuru town to provide autonomy in the dissemination of information and community service in the region. The aim of the project, according to the deputy vice-chancellor in charge of academic affairs, Prof Rose Mwonya, is to meet the university’s goals of providing exemplary education to society. Mwonya told our reporter that the bookshop will stock academic and recreational books to serve the public, local schools, colleges and university students and staff based in Nakuru town while retaining a branch at the main campus in Njoro. “The project will kick off immediately the university identifies a suitable location within the Nakuru central business district,” she said, adding that the university management had already put aside funds for the project. This comes in the wake of a need to bridge up a gap in the provision of quality learning and research materials for local schools and training institutions.
