According to the deputy  vice-chancellor in charge of academics, Prof Maurice Amutabi, the college, near Nyangweta hills, will help expand the institution, whose student population is exponentially increasing at the main campus.

He said the process was the first step towards decongesting the main campus which no longer has room for expansion.

“We have started building the College of Agriculture in Nyangweta with an aim of decongesting main campus. We are all aware that there is limited room for expansion and that is why we had to take that initiative,” Amutabi said on Thursday in his office.

“I am very optimistic that in the next two years, the place will be ready and all our agriculture students will have to go there,” he added.

He said there are also plans to build the School of Medicine in a land that was donated by Prof Joseph Nyasani near Kisii town.

“It is not only agriculture. In the long run, we want main campus to be exclusively for information science students. The School of Medicine will be elevated soon,” Amutabi said.

Currently, medical students are operating from a rental building in Kisii town while the School of Business and Economics and Education already have permanent places.
