Mount Kenya University Vice Chancellor Prof. Chege Mungai has said that the society has neglected the boy child, something that has led him to engage into social ills.
Speaking at the university's main campus in Thika on Friday, Mungai said that negligence of the boy child has seen him get into drugs and other vices, almost turning him into a social misfit.
The VC also announced that the university will be working with other stakeholders to inculcate good values in youths.
“Almost everybody is talking about girl child and other issues related to her. We have sort of ignored the boy child. The boy child is now endangered and that is why we are concerned about his future,” said Mungai.
“In any case, it is both the boy and the girl child that holds our future. We in MKU will like to partner with public and private organisations that are concerned with the transformation of our families,” he added.
At the same time, Julius Kamau, from Parents Resource Institute noted that many parents have forsaken their parenting roles.
“Many parents no longer offer advice to their children, which has affected their behaviour a lot,” he said.
