Kisii University will on Monday raise funds for Garissa University survivors in bid to have them buy some of the items they lost during the terror attack.
Students’ Union chairman Rodgers Nyanumba, speaking on Sunday at the Kisii Cathedral during Easter celebrations, urged residents of Kisii town to turn up in large numbers in solidarity with the students.
He said the Harambee targets to raise at least Sh 500,000 which will be handed over to the Kenya Red Cross for the purpose of fair distributions to those who survived the attacks.
“We are working closely with Red Cross Kisii branch to ensure that those who will benefit are genuine victims because they have the names,” Nyanumba added.
This comes after reports emerged that most survivors of the terror attack that led to the deaths of 148 people hailed from Gusii region. The survivors were dropped by NYS vehicles on Sunday at Kisii town after they were evacuated from the university.
“We are not doing this because most survivors are from this region. It is our plan to help them at this difficult time,” he said.
