Vibrant Democratic Party (VDP) has dismissed speculations that Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has plans to unite with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho ahead of the August General election. The speculations arose after the duo shared a political platform during the unveiling of the new Mamba Village Statue on Saturday.VDP Secretary General Millicent Adhiambo said Awiti is still in the race to unseat Joho, adding that he is not joining the county boss ahead of the August polls as it is being speculated. Adhiambo, who addressed journalists on Monday in Mombasa, said Awiti and Joho shared the same platform as a show of protocal, adding that rumors about the union have no basis at all. “Our leaders shared the platform as a matter of courtesy and protocol. Any political misinterpretations, as are being hawked by certain panicked quarters, should be dismissed and treated with the contempt they deserve,” said Adhiambo, as quoted by The Star. The official also said VDP has plans to create an all inclusive government that will address problems facing residents living in the county once Awiti ascends to power in August. “The party will form an all-inclusive government that has the face and voice of all communities and is characteristic of the highly cosmopolitan Mombasa region,” she added. She further thanked the people for supporting them as they look forward to clinching the county's top seat. “We intend to repay this warmth by promising and committing to people-centered governance,” she said.
