Water vendors operating within Kisii town have been warned against selling dirty water to locals.
This is after the residents of Daraja Mbili claimed that the vendors are taking advantage of increased demand for the commodity to supply dirty water.
"Recently the region has not experienced rains. Water levels at sources have gone down. vendors may take advantage of the situation to start supplying dirty water to residents," said a resident Venah Moraa.
Hotel owners said any water vendor found supplying dirty water will be banned from operating within to ensure good health of customers.
"Water in containers coming from vendors will be inspected thoroughly to find those who will sell dirty water," said Fred Okeyo, one of the hotel operator.
A vendor, Evans Ong'angi said they will not supply dirty water because it is a risk to the lives of people.
"If we supply unclean or untreated water to our customers, it means will be subjecting them to diseases such as typhoid and Cholera. As vendors we won't allow anyone put the health of people at risk," said Ong'angi.
