Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has asked farmers to venture more into flower farming for economic prosperity.
Speaking when he toured Naivasha on Saturday, Mbugua said that the flower sector remains lucrative for the county.
He said that the sector is one of the county’s top economic earner adding that the government will help farmers venture into sector.
“My government is ready to support farmers venture into flower farming sector,” he said.
Mbugua said that there are local and foreign markets for flowers adding that his government is in consultations with other countries across the world that will be importing flowers directly.
He said that apart from being a top economic earner, the sector has employed many young people.
Mbugua said that many youths have been employed in flower farms and industries across Naivasha Sub County. He urged the flower firms to create more job opportunities and help address the issue of unemployment.
Meanwhile, Mbugua has urged Naivasha residents to diversify their farming and venture into other crops.
He said the move will help improve food security and curb threats of famine and hunger.
