Farmers in Uasin Gishu county have been asked to diversify their farming activities so as to maximize the available land.

Newly appointed Agriculture County Executive (CeC) Samson Yego has specifically reiterated the need for farmers to venture into Horticulture.

Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, Yego said it was time farmers moved away from the traditional maize and wheat production.

"The county is now promoting the production of other crops like Coffee, Macadamia and Avocado have had a huge potential yet to be tapped in," said Mr. Yego.

"Horticulture is the main thing today since it has more returns and we've facilities like the cold room at the Eldoret international airport which needs to be utilized," added.
