Zachary Mwaniki, a pig farmer at Gathangari Location has said the venture is performing well adding that it is the next big frontier for youth.

Mwaniki has said that pig rearing does not demand much like livestock rearing and this makes it suitable for the youth to start even with little capital.

“With waste from farm you can rear a pig and make money,” said Mwaniki.

Speaking on Friday at Githiga Ward in Githunguri sub-county during training to a group of youth who had paid him a courtesy call, Mwaniki urged the youth to form groups to enable them access capital to undertake farming projects that would enable them generate income.

“You are fortunate that the government has taken keen interest in the affairs of youth by introducing soft loan facilities to help you. With Uwezo Fund you can start pig farming and be successful,” said Mwaniki.

Mwaniki urged the youth to present a proposal to Uwezo Fund office in the area to access the loan.

“You don't require a security to access the loan. You only need a proposal which should be forwarded to Uwezo Fund offices and you’ll get money,” said Mwaniki.

Mwaniki convinced the youth that the returns are impressive.

“A 7-month pig can fetch Sh14,000. If you have 20 pigs you can make Sh280,000,” he said.

Mwaniki urged the county government to increase its youth fund allocation to enable more youth to benefit from the fund.
