Kiambu County agriculture executive member Monicah Waiganjo said the demand for eggs has risen in the recent days and the urban residents are now depending on the rural counterparts to supply them with eggs and chicken meat which has not been prioritised by many.

She added that she will fund two groups in Thika and Kiambaa sub-counties which have shown interest in the same and that she will assist them in the best way possible considering they are being funded by the county Youth Enterprise fund.

Waiganjo called on the youth in the county to take a step ahead and be unique as most of the people are starting up businesses and not many are thinking of the poultry.

She challenged them that she started the farming activity with only a hundred chickens in her home ground and she is now a bulk distributor of KenChick.

“I ventured into this farming activity just a year ago and I have reaped a lot. You should take a step and venture into this activity as it has huge produce if you are dedicated to doing it,” Waiganjo said.

She was speaking in General Kago grounds on Thursday, Thika town where the farmers are holding a two-day trade expo to showcase their products and innovations to the residents as planned by county government of Kiambu.
