Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has challenged Kenyans to ensure any politician seeking to occupy a public office is properly vetted before being elected to office.
Mutua said leaders whose development score cards are wanting have no moral authority to seek or continue holding public offices.
“Kenyans should be keen on the leaders they elect to office, they should mark and reject politicians whose mission is to plant seeds of ethnic discord among the people,” Mutua said.
He spoke in Nyeri town today where he was hosted by the Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga during the launch of Code of Ethics and Conduct for public service in the county.
While lauding the initiative by Nyeri County to launch the program, Mutua underscored the need for public servants to practice humility and efficiency while discharging their various duties.
“We need to change how public service is executed. Those in public service must remember that they are servants and not masters of those they serve,” Mutua said.
Mutua, flanked by his deputy Francis Maliti is leading a delegation of Machakos County Government staff on a two-day bench marking tour of Nyeri County.
At some point, the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader thrilled his audience when he addressed crowds in fluent Kikuyu language, reminding them that diverse ethnic languages should not be a barrier to national integration.
Governor Kahiga said he is excited to host the Machakos delegation and assured Mutua that Nyeri people are glad to host a respected leader.
