There is a tendency by political parties and community kingpins to impose leaders on the locals.
They endorse a contestant and ask the locals to vote in 'suit' and 'block'. This has made many political newcomers to win at their first attempts in elections.
A former columnist in the nation dailies referred them as test-tube politicians. Normally, it could be hard for a political newbie to defeat the veterans in the game of politics.
But these newcomers ride on their ethnicity or political party to win the election. When elected they end up being loyal to their parties and party leaders.
They never care to serve the people who vote for them but instead focus on impressing their party leaders. We have elected leaders with questionable past and characters because they were endorsed by political party leaders or community kingpins.
We let the party leaders and kingpins to think and choose for us. It's the democratic right of every citizen eligible to vote to elect their political leaders of choice.
No person or organization should impose a leader on us. Political parties can endorse their candidate but they should not expect the people to just rubber stamp their choice.
People have a right to assess the contestant before making their choice. As we approach the elections lets take time to vet each contestant independent of their party or who has endorsed them.
Let's dig into their past, backgrounds, and character before we make our choice. We should elect someone with integrity and not someone who will bring past baggage to post.
