The county government of Mombasa through the office of the governor on Monday ordered the removals of all Street beggars on its Central business.
The exercise saw over 50 Street beggars ejected from the operation.
Surprisingly, among the beggars was,Ali Juma Mwangusha, a renowned and a veteran musician and composer of the famous Voice of Kenya's (VoK) signature tune.
The Kwale-born musician while speaking at Mombasa Municipal Court, revealed that he has been in the street for three years now after being retrenched at the Bombolulu Cultural Centre.
"Since I was laid off from the Bombolulu Cultural Centre three years ago, I have had no job to feed my young family. I have resorted to begging on the streets of Mombasa," he said.
At Bombolulu Cultural Centre, he was tasked with entertaining arriving guests at the airport or at the port together with his group.
He also entertained guests and the public during the national holidays celebrations.
Mr Mwangusha, blind since the age of 12, further revealed that since then he had been relying upon well wishers who knew him but that was not sufficient for him to take care of his young family and to permanently moved him away from the streets.
He has since been taken back to Bombolulu where he had listed as his home.
