Zakayo Cheruiyot has officially quit politics.
The lawmaker made the decision after losing the Kuresoi South MP seat to Joseph Tonui of Jubilee Party.
Cheruiyot sought a third term in office through the Chama Cha Mashinani.
"I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you as your MP for the past 10 years."
"Now you have given Tonui a chance, I respect your choice," he said on Saturday.
He spoke at Kiptagich during a function where he met his competitor.
Tonui on his part called on the Kalenjin community to rally behind Deputy President William Ruto.
"I want to urge you to ignore any leader who intends to divide the broad Kalenjin community. DP Ruto is taking us to prosperity."
Tonui promised to embrace all constituents including those who did not vote for him.
