A newly commissioned liquor licensing committee will begin to vet and recommend licensing of alcoholic businesses in Thika sub-county starting this Monday.
This was announced on Saturday at Thika Stadium by Thika sub-county administrator Rose Muthoni who said that the exercise will kick-off in Kamenu, Ngoliba and Gatuanyaga wards and finally in Thika Town (Township and Hospital wards).
"On Wednesday we finished commissioning of a new liquor licensing committee that will be involved in vetting and recommending of qualified liquor businesses and bars in the sub-county," said Muthoni.
She said that only the businesses that will be found suitable to operate will be licensed by the county government.
At the same time, the administrator lauded the national government for co-operating with the county government and helping them reduce the manufacture and sale of illicit brews.
"Chiefs and their assistants have been very instrumental on the grassroots and have helped us in a big way in reducing the brewing and sale of substandard brews in the sub-county and we hope to continue with that cooperation," said Muthoni.
