Mombasa Deputy Governor held a candid meeting with a delegation from the National Police Commission led by Commissioner Murshid A. Mohammed.
Among others, the Commission briefed Dr William Kingi on the status of the Police Vetting Process which is set to resume soon, assuring that the commission had established a Human Resource Information Technology system to monitor the organization's human capital that would equate accumulated wealth with capabilities from emoluments received over time.
Kingi said the system would go along way in minimising corruption which he said has ailed the commission over time.
They also deliberated on the prevailing security situation in Mombasa County, where they agreed to join hands in promoting community policing by empowering the existing community policing structures.
The Commission is also willing to train Mombasa County Inspectorate officers in handling security threats and criminal investigations.
"Through this we shall also be able to create harmony in the operations of the police and the County Inspectorate to avoid any conflicts that may compromise security operations within the county," he said.
Kingi also challenged the Commission to ensure equity in the national police recruitment exercise, saying youth from Mombasa who are willing to join the service are not given equal opportunities as others elsewhere.
The Commission assured him that they will be rolling out a Village level National Police Recruitment System that will address the inequity.
"We hope that the exercise shall be transparent and fair for all. And even as we appreciate the efforts of the commission in harnessing security and curbing corruption, a lot still needs to be done," said the DG on Saturday.
