The VC was speaking on Tuesday at the University during a swearing-in ceremony of newly elected student leaders.

Prof Akama said that students had suffered enough as they were using funds meant for this semester in engaging in other activities.

"It will be very expensive for parents to send upkeep yet their kids are not studying. It means if the semester is extended they will have to use more," he said.

This comes just days after students in the campus raised concerns over the failure by the University's management to give them an official communication about the matter.

The University boss asked the students to be calm as he shares with his fellow lecturers.

Learning was paralysed at all universities in the country after lecturers went on strike demanding for more pay as per to a Collective Bargaining Agreement they made with the Government in 2017.
