After the Supreme Court “determination” on the August 8th presidential election in which the victory of the incumbent, President Uhuru Kenyatta, was nullified, song and dance broke out among NASA legislators who were outside the court’s chambers awaiting the court’s verdict.
The lawmakers jubilated and danced merrily as NASA’s presidential flag bearer in the last general elections, Raila Odinga, walked out of the court’s corridors towards the podium.
As other legislators were dancing, the Mbita Member of Parliament, Millie Odhiambo, put off her lawyer’s robe and prostrated on the ground behind the statue of the little-naked boy holding a fish.
As she stood up, she said, amid tears rolling down her eyes, that she had promised God that she would prostrate on the ground in front of the Supreme Court if the NASA’s petition succeeded.
Raila later addressed the gathering where he thanked the judges for “the precedent-setting ruling” and condemned the electoral commission for the bungled elections.
A fresh round of presidential elections is expected to be conducted within 60 days after yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling. NASA has demanded that the electoral body is overhauled before the presidential election is conducted.
