Justice Ouko is set to resume office immediately after his swearing in. He is replacing Justice Kihara Kariuki who got nominated as the Attorney General by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Before the elections which saw Justice Ouko winning, Justice Philip Waki was the acting President of the Court of Appeal. This incidence comes when the country is faced with a shortage of judges, which is currently affecting service delivery in the country.

It should be noted that after the appointment of the Chief Justice and his deputy Philomena Mwilu to the Supreme Court, their positions had not yet been filled due to lack of judges in the country.

This has been straining operations at the Court of Appeal. Shortage of clerks has also affected operations, which forces two or more judges to be served by one clerk.

However, each judge must be having his/her own clerk for efficiency purposes. More so, some staffs had retired but haven’t been replaced at the Court of appeal.
