Workers from across the country have started thronging Uhuru Park, in Nairobi, for this year's Labour Day celebrations.
The Central Organization of Trade Unions Cotu - Kenya, led by secretary general Francis Atwoli is leading the fete.
Despite chilly weather, Cotu band and staff took to Nairobi streets, matching, and singing workers' songs, as they headed to the historic recreational ground, Monday morning. Watch video here.
Atwoli has called for a 22 per cent salary hike for all the workers, and today's celebrations will determine if it will be possible.
President Uhuru Kenyatta who is expected at the event, had pledged that workers' salaries would be increased during this year's May Day.
Several government officials such as Labour Cabinet Secretary Philies Kandie are also expected to attend.
Security has been heightened for the event.
