Barely a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned the construction of various roads in Mombasa, Governor Hassan Joho has hit out at the President, accusing him of lying about the said projects.
This comes after Deputy President William Ruto said the Jubilee government had committed over Sh60 billion in Mombasa alone for the construction of roads, adding that no other administration has ever initiated such projects in the county. However, in a quick re-battle, Joho dismissed the President and his deputy, saying the duo are using projects which were funded by foreign governments to woo residents.According to the firebrand Governor, the Jubilee leadership had done little for the people of Mombasa. He accused the Uhuru-led government of skewed development, saying that some regions were getting more development than others. The ODM deputy party leader further warned the President against lecturing him for defending the rights of his people.“The roads which are being constructed in Mombasa including the Sh2.1 billion Airport road were funded by the UK government through Trade Mark East Africa. You can’t say this is a Jubilee project, have you (Uhuru) become the President of the UK?” asked Joho.He challenged the President to differentiate between projects funded by the tax payer and those supported by foreign governments and organisations.“When you visit other counties you commission big projects but whenever you come to Mombasa you lecture us. I’m not your child my friend, you can’t lecture me,” added Joho.
