Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday received overwhelming support in Kiambu when he and the president toured the region.
In a speech delivered at Ruaka, chants of Ruto! Ruto! drowned the DP as he addressed the crowd that had gathered to welcome the entourage through the area.
In the address Ruto dismissed the ‘evil schemes’ of those who tried to fix them at the ICC.
Starting by 'Bwana asifiwe' (Praise the Lord), the crowd was euphorically charged and the excitement peaked with the ‘answered prayers’ over the ICC as the DP praised the residents.
In a video recording, the crowd sang pro-Ruto chants as the DP promised to help unite the country.
This may come as a surprise that Ruto has the support of those from Kiambu despite the area traditionally being known to vote ‘for only their own’.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy were in the county for various activities.
The itinerary included commissioning Theta Dam and the new look Gatundu Hospital, in Gatundu, inspecting Kiambu Hospital, commissioning the Ruaka - Banana - Tigoni - Limuru Road and then launching the Mutarakwa-Thogoto Road.
