West Pokot senator Prof John Lonyangapuo says his life is in danger.

The Kanu lawmaker raised concerns citing his ambitions to unseat area governor Simon Kachapin who is a close ally to a top government official, as the basis of the threats to his life.

The senator expressed fear for his life, saying he received death threats.

Kachapin seeks to defend his seat on a Jubilee Party ticket, with top party leadership led by Deputy President William Ruto backing him.

Speaking at Kankilikwan in Kapenguria, Lonyangapuo took a swipe at Ruto, over his 2022 presidential ambitions, saying he was over ambitious, and could likely fall.

"Someone like him (direct reference to DP Ruto), and I've heard he is salivating to be a president in 2022. We are yet to ensure Uhuru wins, yet he is jumping to 2022. Somebody like him will fall so badly," Lonyangapuo said, as his supporters cheered, Saturday June 17.

"I've heard he can kill others. I've heard that he is saying if Lunyangapuo is so strong, he will not reach August 8. How can this happen? It is God who has the lives of the people. I am now announcing that all the 950,000 Pokots that they should know there's a man that has announced bad news to my life," said the senator.

Kanu, under the leadership of Baringo senator Gideon Moi, pledged its backing for Kenyatta re-election, despite having political rivalry for Rift Valley leadership, with the DP.
