Modern Coast Express has fired one of its drivers after he was on Saturday filmed driving on the wrong lane at high speed.
In the video, the bus, which was heading to Meru, is seen speeding and overlapping near Nithi, a known blackspot.
The company issued a public apology via its Facebook page, saying they had presented the driver to the National Safety and Transport Authority (NTSA) for cancellation of his licences.
“The video of our Meru bus overlapping near Nithi blackspot circulating on social media is a disgrace. We would like to apologise for that and stop such recklessness. The company advocates for safety. It is with that reason we have taken action by presenting the driver to NTSA for cancellation of his licences, summary dismissed and retrain before going back to our roads. We shall continue working with the public and authorities to ensure a safe transport industry,” read the post.
This comes a few days after a bus belonging to the company caught fire near Kyulu, between Voi and Mtito Andei.
No passengers were injured during the incident.
