Kisumu governorship aspirant, senator Prof Anyang' Nyong'o has launched his manifesto, ahead of the August 8 elections.

He noted the document holds the future of Kisumu County, unlock its full potential and see the county through 2017 and beyond.

During the launch, Nyong'o, who is an ODM candidate, faulted the current governor, Jack Ranguma, saying he had failed the residents.

"When we initiated the Economic Recovery Strategy for Wealth and Employment Creation (ERS) for Kenya in 2003, we observed that Kenya was a nation of great potential but a disappointing underachiever.

This is what we can say of Kisumu County today: a County of great potential but a disappointing underachiever. Bad governance underpins Kisumu’s under-achievement. This must be reversed. We will reverse it for Kisumu County to realise its potential, through our ten-point agenda in this manifesto," said the lawmaker, Wednesday.

He noted the central focus of the manifesto is to create jobs through sustainable developments in agriculture, industry and the service sectors. "We are well aware that these cannot be achieved without a governance system that allows for free expression of the aspirations and choices of the people as well as their full participation in development. That is why we plan to strengthen the structures of devolved governance up to the village level. This will give an opportunity to every citizen in Kisumu County to make a contribution to unlocking the great potential of the county and share in the prosperity."He noted Kisumu would begin to fly with the eagles and stop walking with the chicken "as has happened in the last five years under the county government."

Nyong'o is expected to face off with Ranguma who left the ODM party to vie as an Independent candidate after losing in party primaries, alongside other candidates.
