ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya has told off president Uhuru Kenyatta, after he criticised the party for issuing direct nominations to a section of aspirants.
The Raila Odinga-led party issued direct nominations, to over 400 aspirants, since there were no ODM aspirants opposing them, in their respective areas. Oparanya was among them.
According to Uhuru, this was lack of democracy, and his Jubilee party would not try giving direct nominations, as August 8 polls near.
Speaking in his Kakamega County, the governor warned Uhuru against saying ODM was dishing out the certificates, after leaders who received them, paid the party to do so.
"I heard president Uhuru Kenyatta saying that (ODM party leader) Raila (Odinga) was dishing out nomination certificates- that he is giving to his governors after they give him money of buying the certificates. Where did we buy the certificates?'' he wondered.
Addressing locals, Thursday, Oparanya who seeks a re-election added: "Governors and aspirants who were given the direct nomination certificates have no opponents in ODM.''
He emphasised that they never paid for the certificates, and would not allow ODM's name be tainted.
