Police in Mombasa are pursuing a gang of five criminals caught on camera robbing a British tourist at a restaurant in City Mall, Nyali.
The gang, is reported to have stolen the tourist's bag containing six passports, Sh75,000, 200 Euros and pieces of jewelry among other valuables of unknown value, the Star reports. The CCTV footage obtained from the mall shows the criminals robbing the tourist before driving away in a waiting car. In the footage two women are seen posing as clients while coordinating with two men to steal the bag.The camera also captured a male suspect pulling the bag from the victim before handing it over to his female accomplice while another man is seen conversing with security officers at the mall in an attempt to distract them.The victim, who was later identified as Princess Moore-Sieray, was in the company of her daughter during the incident.Confirming the Friday incident, Kisauni police boss Christoper Rotich said security officers have been circulating the details of the car captured on camera, as the search for the criminals continues. The police boss said they suspect the criminals had trailed the victim from her hotel before robbing her. “We suspect they had trailed the lady from her hotel and they might have had prior information of the contents of her bag. We are appealing for public support,” said Rotich, as quoted by the daily.Police are using the CCTV footage to identify the criminals.Watch the video here
