Cord leader Raila Odinga has said that the only crime Jacob Juma committed was exposing the alleged Eurobond theft.
Speaking in Kakamega town on Saturday during a youths' forum dubbed “Investing in the youth, securing the future”, Raila said the late Juma was a hero for his courage to talk about alleged theft of Eurobond money.
Raila faulted the police over what he termed shoddy investigations into the killing of the government critic.
“Jacob Juma died because he was exposing Eurobond theft. That is the only crime he committed. He was a hero,” Raila said.
Juma was gunned down on May 5, 2016 at about 9pm as he was driving to his Karen Home in Nairobi.
The Cord leader and Juma’s family had asked the government to invite the FBI or Scotland Yard to conduct investigations into the murder, saying Kenyan police cannot be trusted with the probe.
Police have since concluded that the businessman was shot with an AK47 assault rifle.
Juma’s car had more than seven bullet holes.
His autopsy report showed that his right hand was shot several times, with a high velocity gun at close range, puncturing a major artery.
A pathologist said in such cases, the patient bleeds a great deal and dies of blood loss within minutes.
A tow truck attendant who was involved in the recovery of Juma’s Mercedes said there wasn’t much blood on the driver’s seat.
