On January 19, 2018, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga shocked Kenyans when he insisted that he was going to take a controversial oath as the President of Kenya.
To the amusement of the world, Raila took the Bible and raised the ceremony before other NASA leaders.
The opposition leader made good his threat when he later took the oath at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.
"I Raila Amolo Odinga, swear that I will fight for the Constitution of Kenya with all my strength, so help me God," he said in Swahili, jokingly, while holding a Bible.
The opposition leader also said he would stand with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as he seeks to ascend to power in 2022.
The NASA leaders had maintained the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) rigged their election.
They wanted the commission overhauled before the rerun.
Raila decided to withdraw from the rerun only to swear himself in as the President.
The incident attracted different reactions from different leaders.
Leaders allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta called for his arrest over what they termed as treason.
Raila has since made a U-turn and promised to work with President Kenyatta in the famous handshake.
Uhuru and Raila have also forgiven each other following muddy campaigns.
