There was drama at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) when immigration officers blocked NASA coalition financier businessman Jimi Wanjigi and Siaya Senator James Orengo from leaving the country to Zimbabwe on Monday night.
The two were about to fly to Harare for the burial of the opposition's MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai, who passed on last week on Wednesday.
Orengo said immigration officials at JKIA confiscated Wanjigi’s passport following orders from the Director of Immigration, Gordon Kihalangwa.
A video doing rounds on social media shows Wanjigi asking an immigration officer to hand him back his passport but the male officer remains mum.
"That passport belongs to me, it doesn't belong to you. Can you give me back my passport? You're ignoring court orders can I have my passport back. I say again can I have my passport back.. you're ignoring court orders," Wanjigi is heard saying.
Orengo intervenes and asks the officer to identify himself since the two had court orders restricting the government from confiscating or suspending their passports, but he still remains mum.
The duo later missed their 9.20pm flight, even as their leader Raila Odinga arrived in Zimbabwe after leaving Kenya on Monday afternoon for the burial slated for Tuesday, February 20, 2018.
