On July 26, 2014, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale found himself in hot soup after linking the Coalition for Restoration of Democracy (CORD) to deadly Al Shaabab terror group.
The remarks did not augur well with opposition politicians led by former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo and Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo.
The Mbita lawmaker asked the ruling side to treat the opposition with respect.
“We demand to be treated with respect, with equality, with dignity as provided in the constitution. We can’t be chased all the time and honorable Duale even now Madam speaker if you would please indulge me for a second, please because am feeling it in my heart the next time I will blow up," said Millie Odhiambo.
Duale, refused to withdraw the remarks stating that; “I will say it tomorrow, I will say it next year, the CORD coalition and the Al Shabaab looks like they speak the same language."
“Don’t be silly bwana, what are you doing. We are Members of Parliament? Stop it, stop it, who you are," Midiwo said.”
The then Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso tried to calm the members but her plea fell on deaf ears.
The Al Shaabab militia group caused the death of many Kenyans with the Garissa University and West Gate Mall attacks being among the worst terror incidents in the nation.
