Vihiga United boosted chances of being promoted to the Kenya Premier League (KPL) after beating Kisumu based Palos FC 1-0 in a National Super League (NSL) match played at the Kisumu’s Moi Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

The lone goal was scored by Vihiga United Captain Patrick Okulo via a penalty kick; to put the Edward Manoah coached side back into contention for a KPL spot next year.

The Vihiga County sponsored team now lies second on the NSL log with 74 points, one behind leaders Ushuru FC with two matches to go before this season comes to an end.

Wazito FC is third with 74 points, but with an inferior goal difference while KCB has 73 points.

All the four teams have played 34 matches each, and all of them have mathematical chances of getting the two KPL automatic qualifying spots, depending on their performance in the two remaining fixtures.

Vihiga United will face Bidco United and Ushuru FC in the last two fixtures.

Vihiga United danger man Patrick Okulo leads NSL top scorers’ chart with 17 goals, one ahead of Ushuru FC’S Benson Antony Amianda and KCB’s Simon Abuko.
