Vihiga United and Vihiga Queens players and members of the technical bench have been assured of Vihiga County government’s support, ahead of next season.
Vihiga United won the 2017 National Super League trophy and got Kenya Premier League (KPL) promotion while Vihiga Queens won the 2017 Women Premier League (WPA) overall title after defeating Thika Queens in a playoff match.
The success of the two teams has now caught the attention of Vihiga County governor Wilbur Otichillo who says the teams will receive maximum support from his office and the county government in general.
Speaking during a meeting with Vihiga United players and members of the technical bench in his office in Mbale town on Monday, Otichillo said that he is proud of United and Queens for drawing people’s attention to Vihiga County through prowess in soccer.
“I am very proud of you. You have put Vihiga United on the map. People now know where Vihiga County is,” he told Vihiga United squad.
As governor of this county, I want to assure you that I will work with the management of this team in order to ensure that the team functions properly,” he assured.
He urged players of the two teams to remain focused, while advising them not to leave for other teams.
Vihiga United will participate in KPL for the first time next year, with Vihiga Queens is set to defend the WPL crown.
United is coached by former Kakamega Homeboyz and Chemelil Sugar coach Edward Manoah, while Vihiga Queens is coached by Alex Alumira.
