Vihiga United started life at the Kenya Premier League (KPL) on a losing note after going down 2-1 against 2008 KPL champions Mathare United.Playing at Bukhungu stadium, their home turf, the Vihiga County Government sponsored club went ahead through a Dennis Wafula 24th minute goal.The 2017 National Super League (NSL) champions went on the break leading but Clifford Alwanga's brace in the second half were enough to ensure Mathare United escape with 2-1 win.Speaking in mid week after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kisumu All Stars in a friendly match, Vihiga United’s head coach veteran Edward Manoah said they were going out to find a win against Mathare United, but that was not to be on Sunday.In other matches played on Sunday, Kakamega County government sponsored Kakagmega Homeboyz defeated hosts Thika United 1-0 at the Thika Municipal Stadium.The solo goal was scored by former AFC Leopards and Tusker FC forward Allan Wanga in the 13th minute.2009 KPL Champions Sofapaka received a soccer lesson from Mombasa based Bandari FC who thrashed them 3-0 in Narok.
