The home in Malindi which was raided by police and firearms seized on Monday does not belong to prominent businessman Jimmy Wanjigi, Siaya Senator James Orengo has said.Orengo said they have information the cache of arms that were found inside the house were planted owing to the businessman’s close association with the National Super Alliance.“The information we have is that the home raided in Malindi doesn't belong to Jimmy and the cache of firearms were planted,” Orengo said. The Siaya Senator and former Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama told journalists Monday that the incident was political.Wanjigi declared his support for NASA leader Raila Odinga earlier this year.Orengo was speaking at Wanjigi's home in Nairobi's Muthaiga estate when police officers raided the property on Monday reportedly in search of illegitimate firearms.Officers from the Special Crimes Prevention Unit, Flying Squad and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations laid siege at the home for over seven hours but were unable to access the luxurious house of the businessman after successfully gaining entry into the compound.Orengo said the act was illegal as police did not have an arrest warrant.“There is no basis for the police to continue being here as they have no arrest warrant. This is an illegal act and points to circumstances aimed at trumping up charges,” said Orengo.
