Residents of Kyamatula area in Mwala, Machakos County risk experiencing acute water scarcity after Kwa Ndoo Dam was swept away by flood waters due to heavy rains pondering the county.
The dam constructed by Child Fund was recently swept away by heavy rains which continue to wreck havoc in most parts of the Ukambani region.
The locals led by Musau Ngovi said for now, they are benefiting from the rain water.
Ngovi said the residents will be forced to walk long distances in search of water, the basic commodity after the rains are over.
"For now we are using rain water but after the rains, we will be forced to go to far places on search of water," Ngovi said.
They urged the Machakos County Government to move with haste and partner with the NGO restore the dam so as to enable residents get water.
"The rains are not heavy for now, the government should hasten and restore the dam so that when the rains fall again water will be harvested," said Ngovi.
This is after the officers from the Child Fund (NGO) who toured the dam said it will take time for the dam to be restored.
