Alias Okemwa, 28, is said to have ignored his father, Haron Okemwa‘s advice that he waits for other siblings who are at different parts of the country before the ancestral land is partitioned.

In a heated meeting between the elders and the accused on Tuesday, Okemwa Jnr failed to convince the elders over his action to defy the elderly man and was subsequently ordered to pay Sh2,000 as fine to the ‘mistake’.

“Elders are the supremo defacto in our society and whatever they say, whether right or wrong must be respected to the latter. Defying it will be taken as a serious offence and that is why we are not convinced of reasons to your actions,” said elder John Mwambi.

“You should have waited for your siblings before a ceremony was conducted to partition the land. What is evident here is that the father is ready to partition the land and therefore that is why you were wrong. You have to demolish the structure immediately and pay elders Sh2,000 for sitting allowance,” he said.

Alias Okemwa, however, disputed the ruling and accused the elders of being biased since the father was at liberty to call the other three brothers from across the country.

“I don’t agree with them because it’s not my duty to wait for someone all this time. It is my right to ask for the ancestral land whatever time I need it,” he said.
